COURSE FEATURES / POLICIES:

Students must use universal precautions and Iollow OSHA standards D. Students must Iollow clinic dress code E. Students need to be present at orientation meeting at 7:20 AM. Students who are late or miss the meeting will loose points Irom the day`s average F. Students must attend the Team meeting at 7:30 AM and team review session aIter clinic. G. Students need to be proIessional and demonstrate positive work ethic H. Students are to review Iirst and second quarter materials as appropriate to be prepared Ior the rigors oI the clinic and experiences. I. During every Campus Dental Clinic rotation, the student must: participate and sign Team Log; complete selI evaluation; tally skills and tasks perIormed; take team leader direction; accept and Iollow dentists and instructional technician`s directives; be motivated about rotation. J. Students may be dismissed Irom clinic iI: unprepared physically and mentally; actions endanger patients, staII, peers saIety or welIare; is using or demonstrates impaired Iunction due to drugs, alcohol, or other chemical substances; insubordination. K. Students absent during missing clinic rotations will miss assigned points and they cannot be made up. All points must average at least 76 to pass Dent 166. L. When students have concerns about clinic, they must Iollow posted protocol to address these concerns. M. Students needing more practice may sign up Ior review sessions with the instructional technician, between 3:00 and 4:00 PM, by appointment. N. Students will secure their dental oIIice Ior required visitations O. Students must Iollow the assigned schedule oI rotations into the Campus Dental Clinic.
FINANCIAL AID:
Students receiving Iinancial aid should ALWAYS check with Financial Aid prior to withdrawing, signing an incomplete contract, or receiving an F or V grade.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND EXPECTATIONS:
Learning experiences are designed to achieve course objectives.
This is a lab course. The rotations into the Campus Dental Clinic, and visitations in private dental oIIices, are designed to provide opportunities Ior the student to practice skills taught Iirst and second quarters, and through visitations, observe a private dental oIIice operations as it delivers patient care
Grades are based on earned points Irom the Iollowing activities: A. Completing a $elf Evaluation every Campus Dental Clinic rotation B. Participate in the Team Log entries and discussions. C. Completing the Jisitation Notebook and related assignments D. Points earned Ior completing at least eight tasks on a list provided during each rotation.
All points are averaged at the end oI the quarter. Students must have a minimum oI 76 to continue on to third quarter.
A student may volunteer, as the need arises, once a quarter in the Campus Dental Clinic. The student will earn 5 extra points and can apply those points towards any course taught by Joan Martin.

94-100 A 87-93 B 86-76 C 72-75 D 71-0 F

EVALUATION STATEMENT:
A. Evaluation will be based upon competencies listed in Clinical SelI Evaluation, participation in Team Log written assignments and participation in oIIice visitations as per course syllabus.
B. The grading system will be in accordance with the South Puget Sound Community College Iaculty handbook
DENT 166 / PRACTICAL LAB APPLICATION II
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Continuation oI Practical Lab Application I, Dent 156. Students rotate into the Campus Dental Clinic and visitations in local dental oIIices. Students will perIorm tasks taught Iall quarter.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
Upon completion oI this course, the successIul student will be able to; A. Prepare Ior patient`s arrival to include; 1. Powering up treatment rooms 2. Interpreting the daily schedule and securing appropriate charts and records 3. Prepare the sterilization alcove 4. Setting out the emergency kit, oxygen / nitrous unit 5. Set out all PPE`s 6. Dress in posted clinic attire to include scrubs and Iull coverage lab coat 7. Purging handpieces and 3-way syringes B. AIter clinic, prepare the Iacility Ior the next day`s patients C. Work constructively as a team member in the delivery oI patient care D. Interpret and Iollow a daily treatment schedule E. Interact with their clinic team to problem solve and support each other F. Prepare treatment rooms Ior speciIic restorative procedures to include; 1. All instrumentation, materials, equipment, anesthetic G. IdentiIy, seat, prepare patient Ior procedure H. Follow HIPAA regulations as directed I. Follow OSHA / WISHA regulations J. TransIer instruments, mix and transIer materials, maintain operating Iield while using Iour handed dentistry techniques K. Attend and participate in morning huddle with staII` and team meeting L. Complete $elf Evaluations, Team Logs, Jisitation Workbook M. Secure a dental oIIice and schedule 4 two hour visitations N. Rotate into the Campus Dental Clinic and community dental oIIices as scheduled O. Process instruments correctly to include: 1. Procedural trays 2. Restocking instruments 3. Use oI chemiclave, autoclave, statum, ultrasonic, pre-soak, disinIecting 4. Follow established procedures 5. Use oI appropriate PPE`s P. Follow directions and get clariIication as needed
