LAB SHEET 3
[TYPING TUTOR]

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this Lab exercise is to make the students be familiar with the position of the
keys on the keyboard. This will help them to type faster when writing their project reports and
other assignments.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this laboratory exercise, the student will learn how to:
• Start the typing tutor
• At least type the home keys without looking at the keyboard

MATERIAL REQUIRED
a. PC with typing tutor installed
b. Lab Sheet 3

1.0 ABOUT THE TYPING TUTOR

1.1 Introduction
There is quite a number of typing tutor available in the market today and few may be
downloaded from the Internet. However, in this lab we’ll use Typing Tutor Ver 2.0 by Solution
Dynamics. See Figure 1.

1.2 Using the Typing Tutor

To use this typing tutor, you simply need to:


1. create a user by
a. typing your user name in the New User text box
b. then click on the Add New button
2. select your typing level which could be
a. Novice (for beginners)
b. Intermediate
c. or speed
3. And finally double-click on your user name to start

Double-clicking on your user name will display the following screen view.

This is where the user learns how to type; the character and the finger to be used in pressing the
character are highlighted in red. The user speed, accuracy errors etc are also displayed by the
right of the typing environment.

2.0 EXERCISES

2.1 EXERCISE 1

Start the typing tutor and add a new user using your ID number.

2.2 EXERCISE 2

Use the typing tutor to go as far as you can in the typing exercise provided by software.
