Assessment is a general term that includes the full range of procedures used to gain information about student learning (observation, ratings of performances or projects, paper-and-pencil tests) and the formation of value judgments concerning learning progress. Measurement is the process of obtaining a numerical description of the degree to which an individual possesses a particular characteristic. Measurement answers the question "How much? Test is a particular type of assessment that typically consists of a set of questions administered during a fixed period of time under reasonably comparable conditions for all students. Principles of Educational Evaluation O Evaluation must be based on previously accepted educational objectives. O Evaluation should be continuous comprehensive and a cumulative process. O Evaluation should recognize the total individual personality is involved in learning. O Evaluation should be democratic and cooperative. O Evaluation should be positive and action-directed. O Evaluation should give opportunity to the pupil to become increasingly independent in self-appraisal and self- direction. O Evaluation should include all significant evidence from every possible source. O Evaluation should take into consideration the limitations of the particular educational situations.
