decided to take
action.
Nuclear tests
known as
“trinity” were
performed in
preparation for
the attack.
The U.S. army air
force flew towards
Japan on August 9,
1945.
The Japanese saw two B-29s and
assumed they were for scouting and paid
no further attention.
The US army air force then retaliated
by dropping atomic bombs on the cities
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The goal
was to force Japan to surrender.
