Simple sentences

A simple sentence has one subject and one


verb.
Problems:
> Prepositional phrases :
The passengers on the bus were all sweating and restless.

> Appositives :
Carla, one of the brightest students, won the competition.

 Participial phrases:
Greg’s essays, praised by the teacher, got highest point.
Strategies
1. Make sure the sentence has a subject and a verb.
2. Make sure there are no additional subject
3. Do not confuse object of prepositions with the
subject of the sentences.
4. Be careful with appositives that explain
subjects/objects.
5. Be careful of the use of present and past
participles.
