To judge a dasa I shall take up principles regarding
vimshottari dasa system which are frequently being used by
astrologers for timing important events of life. According to
parasari system, a natural benefic, as owner of an angle, is not
auspicious whereas a natural malefic is capable of producing good
results. This dichotomy between natural benefics and natural
malefics fails to retain much of its significance because a planet’s
auspiciousness depends very much on its ownership of houses
and its relationship with the ascendant lord. Hence, maleficiency
and beneficiency of a planet differ from lagna to lagna and it
predominantly gives results during its dasa/antardasas depending
upon various factors.
Taking into consideration
all
the various
factors the following results are arrived at
while
judging the
dasa/antardasas of a planet:-
(1)
It may be noted that a planet’s intrinsic qualities of a natural
malefic or benefic, its ownership of houses, its placement in
a chart both from the lagna and the
house or houses over
which it has lordship and its
relationship with other planets,
are all to be simultaneously considered because all these
factors interact to determine the overall effects of that planet
during its dasa.
(2)
A natural benefic,
as
owner of an angle, is not auspicious
especially if
it is
also so as placed in an angle that it does
not aspect
its sign in kendra. A natural benefic having
kendradhipati
dosha
if strongly placed fails to give
auspicious results in its dasa/antardasa.
(3)
A
natural benefic, being lord of an angle, and also owning
3rd
or 6th or 11th also, does not give auspicious results. In
that case it acquires malefic qualities in a greater proportion
than even a natural malefic similarly placed.
(4)
A natural benefic, being lord of an angle, if placed in 3rd or
11th house from the angular house which he owns, will give
excellent results because of the destruction of kendradhipati
dosha.
(5)
A natural benefic owning an angle may be fatal in its dasa if
it also owns or occupies 2nd or 7th.
(6)
A yogakaraka planet confers very good results in its dasa.

(7)

A trinal lord during its dasa, if it occupies a trik house, gives good results though the success is achieved under constraints through hard work & struggle.

(8)

A trinal lord having lordship over 3rd, 6th or 11th also gives rise to fortunes though with initial hardships and set-backs.

(9)

Natural benefics as lord of trine bestow more auspicious results than a natural malefic as a trinal lord.

is dependent
upon the company he keeps. The 8th lord spoils
the house

it
is associated.
(12)
The 12th lord gives good or bad effects according to its
placement and relationship with
other
planets in the chart.

(14)
Saturn is a natural killer and if it is either in 2nd or 7th or gets
connection with
the
lords of these two houses, it kills the
native during its main period. If it
does not
kill it inflicts all sorts of pains and miseries on the
native during its dasa/bhukti.
(15)
If a
functional malefic is placed powerfully in an evil house
with evil lord it causes havoc in its dasa.
(16)
A functional malefic in a good house is much better than its
powerful placement in an evil house.

(17) When two planets are conjoined in a sign, one tries to give effects of the other. The nearer the angular distance between them the more dominant will be one planet over the other.

(18) If two planets aspect each other and are mutual friends and placed in favourable houses from each other, their dasa/bhukti effects will be excellent.

If two planets aspecting each other are antagonistic to each

(20)
Transfer of qualities and attributes take place if two planets
exchange their houses.
(21)
A planet gives effect of houses that it aspects during its own
dasa and if the aspected house belongs to the planet itself,it
bestows good results of that house.
(22)
A
natural
malefic’s
aspects
on
houses bring
inauspiciousness to those houses unless the aspected
house is of its own.
(23)
Dasa lord gives results of its dispositor also besides giving
effect of its own placement, ownership, significance, aspect
and relationship with other planets in the
chart. Dispositor’s
lack of strength imparts weakness to the dasa lord whereas,
if a dispositor is powerful and is placed
in
a favourable
house, the dasa will give very good
results through the
bhukti of the dispositor.
(24)
The karkattava (natural significance)
of a planet does show
prominent results during
mahadasa one can expect
its
dasa, e.g. during Sun’s
good or bad results of father or
favour or disfavour
from his boss.
Anxiety and mental
aberrations are felt during Moon’s period and so on. If a
planet is strong,
its
karkattavas prosper, if weak and
afflicted, these suffer.
(25)
The
overall
effects of
a
dasa
lord are modified to a great
extent
according to the lordship, strength & placement of a
antardasa lord especially from dasa lord.
(26)
Dasa lord in its own period also gives effects of the planets
placed in the 4th and 10th houses from it.
(27)
If a planet occupies a house, it also gives, to some extent,
the karkattava effects of those planets which get exalted or
debilitated in that sign.
(28)
Rahu and Kethu give effects of the house they are posited in
and planet(s) they are conjoined with. They also give effects
of their dispositor.

Similar set backs and disappointment may be experienced
