Dear Ms. Keller;
In regards to Man Ray's photograph of Kiki 84.x.1000.46. This
picture was taken by Therse Cano De Castro, A.K.A. Treize on the beach in Brittany, where she and Kiki used to visit on vacations. The development and printing of this picture was done in Man Ray's studio. The same picture with larger cropping and Kiki's dedication to Kiesling was published in Jean Paul Crespille "Montparnass Vivant" in 1962. The original is owned by Kiesling's son.
-It is interesting to note that the print in the Getty collection
was cropped tighter on the enlarger. Considering this information, I think that the attribution to Man Ray of this picture should be modified. Most of this relevant information was conveyed to me by Mr. Billy Kluver.
In regard to Man Ray's nude #84.xm.1000.41, Bernice Abbot looked at
a copy of this photograph and asserted that she is not the model photographed in this picture. She was interviewed this past summer by Ms. Kay Weaver.
I am still researching Man Ray/Boiffard pictures 84.xm.1000.3 and
84.xm.1000.4. Man Ray's archives has one of the negatives; and I find the Seabrook connection quite intriguing, however, stylistically I believe that they are closer to Boiffard's vision. I'll keep you informed when I have more information on this subject.
