CPY realizes that education is the great
equalizer and that undergraduate
schooling offers endless opportunities to
which all students should have access.
Alarmingly enough, only 15% of Chicago
Public Schools students attend college.
Unfortunately, of that very small group,
only 6% will actually receive their degrees.
By partnering with secondary schools such
as Global Visions and Noble Street College
Prep, CPY’s College Preparation initiative
pairs our mentors with senior students
who are determined to pursue their higher
education. During the first half of the GETTING INVOLVED with
program, mentors assist students with the
College Prep
college application process, including
• Mentoring our 12th graders requires
essay and personal statement
composition. The second half of the committing a Saturday afternoon
program yields career and undergraduate on a monthly basis over the course
