San Antonio Current celebrates 25 years with anniversary bash

SAN ANTONIO (September 8, 2011) Rounding out a quarter-century as San Antonios free,

award-winning, alternative newsweekly, the Current will take over Maverick Plaza in historic La Villita from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, to throw a celebratory bash of epic proportions. The Miller Lite-sponsored event will celebrate all things 1986: the music, the dancing, and yes, maybe even a few shoulder pads partygoers are strongly encouraged to dress the part. With local bands and DJs playing 80s music throughout the night, and food and drinks available for purchase onsite, this is one retro celebration you wont want to miss. For a party favor not to be beat, copies of the Currents 25th Anniversary Compilation CD featuring local musicians covering tracks exclusively from 1986. Also free to party people, copies of the Currents 25th Anniversary issue published earlier this year. Though the paper maneuvered quickly through three different ownerships before Times-Shamrock put it on rm nancial footing and began to grow it year by year, the Current has come to be known as an important source of investigative journalism and cultural critique.
