This document defines several demographic rates used to measure birth, death, mortality, and disease incidence. These rates include the crude birth rate, crude death rate, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, fetal death rate, neonatal death rate, specific death rate, incidence rate, attack rate, and proportionate mortality rate. Each rate is calculated using the number of events (e.g. births, deaths) registered in a given time period divided by the estimated population.
