Shapes and Symbols in a Flow Chart

ARROW / FLOW LINE


Denotes the direction of the flow

OVAL
Denotes the beginning or end of the flow process.

PARALLELOGRAM
Denotes either an input or output of the process.

DIAMOND
Denotes a decision to be made / a question

RECTANGLE
Denotes a process or action step to be carried out

CIRCLE
is typically small and is used as a Connector to show a jump from one point in the process flow to another.
