Who will speak?

He was a renowned sportsman in his younger days and went to contribute signicantly to the eld of Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology and Medical Research. At the age of 18, he became the rst Malaysian to ever win an Asian games gold medal at the Asian Games in 1962. His achievements after serving the government in the medical and scientic eld for 32 years can be seen through many personal publication which compasses areas in medical microbiology, infectious diseases and tropical medicine that had impact on the health and well being of the population of this country as well as impact on the practice of hospitals and laboratories in the service, used by health policy makers in planning cost eective and relevant preventive and control programmes. In parallel, he has also continued to contribute to sports through his experties and positions addressed at the medical and anti-doping issues in sports.

PrOminent Malaysian
In recent times, the medical and scientic fraternity is being relied more and more to assist sports bodies in keeping sports clean or alternatively ensuring a fair and level playing eld. Best known amongst these activities is of course the war against doping in sports, which can be said to have come of age in the international sporting landscape of today. Less well publicized may be the roles in other areas such as resolving gender issues and age determination; facing newer frontiers such as gene doping; and debating on grey areas such as the use of altitude chambers and injection of platelet rich plasma into injury sites. The speaker will dene some of these issues and the steps taken to tackle them as well as the achievements so far and the gaps that need to be lled.
