Question 1: What is Antenna?

An antenna is a passive device that changes radio signals in the air into electricity, or vice versa. Antennas send and receive signals, or both. All wireless devices have an antenna attached to it as a passive device, either a visible pole on the outside, or inside.
A parabolic or Dish antenna is a high-gain reflector antenna used for radio, television and data communications, and also for Radar. A typical dish antenna consists of a parabolic reflector with a small feed at its focus point. The reflector is a metallic surface formed into a paraboloid of revolution and (usually) truncated in a circular rim that forms the diameter of the antenna. This paraboloid possesses a distinct focal point The feed antenna is connected to the associated radio-frequency (RF) transmitting or receiving radio equipment by means of a coaxial cable or hollow waveguide. Question 2: What are the types of Antenna? (Category) There are three types of antenna based on their design 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Isotropic Radiator Dipole antenna Horn Antenna Yagi antenna (folded dipole antenna) Dish or Parabolic reflector antenna (Solid Parabolic and Grid parabolic)

Question 3: What is the Basic Function of a Radio Telephony Antenna? An antenna is a transducer designed to convert and transmit or receive electromagnetic waves. In other words, antennas convert electromagnetic waves into electrical RF signals and vice versa. Question 4: Can a Antenna perform functions like transmission or reception on its own? No. Antenna is passive device and contains no active elements, it cannot radiate or receive on its own. Question 5 : Can a Antenna be classified as a Transmitter/ transceiver? No. Antenna is passive device and contains no active elements and cannot work as a transmitter or receiver without a radio part.
