Counter plan Notes

Test whether the resolution is the BEST idea. Necessary: 1. Plan text 2. Solvency 3. Net benefit 4. Status CP needs to: 1. Avoid DAs 2. Gains Advantages 3. Excludes parts of the case 4. Improves the case Types: -Consult Artificially competes, plan inclusive, delay, no binding action -Time Frame Counter Plan Functionally and contextually compete, eliminates the debate, not even debating space -Agents Artificially competes, plan inclusive, delay -Exclusionary (excludes part or all of the case) functionally competes, philosophically competes

Theory of the Competition CP must prove that the resolution is flawed and theres no reason that you should do the plan. The best way to access your DA is by the CP because you will have the same solvency of the aff, but theres no disadvantage to it. -CP and 1AC cannot exist at the same time, exclusivity. Neg must prove that in the world of the CP, the aff cannot happen Aff must prove that the plan and the CP can coexist o Philosophical competition- irresolvable in the way they interact. EX now vs. later Aff says that it sucks to just add 3 months, neg says real world o Functional- Cant both consult and not consult. o Textual competitive- change little nitpicky words If its topical, then youre supporting the resolution. Evaluate whether the PLAN is the best policy option, you cant evaluate the resolution as a whole; parts of it can be bad Aff needs to: 1. Perm the CP o Normal- plan & some of CP o Intrinsic- plan & part/all of CP/something else o Severance-plan & all/part of CP o T/f- plan & CP later 2. Solvency o Compares the two alternatives, favors the affirmative 3. Disadvantages (turns)

Offense, disad to the CP, aff is better policy option, challenges competition.

Advocacy 1. Unconditional- Just do it 2. Conditional- Maybe do it 3. Dispositional- Ill do it if (straight turn), and Ill kick it if you run theory
