This is a new concept in

Internet bookmarking that

allows you to not only
bookmark important sites
for yourself, but to share
your bookmarks and find out
who is bookmarking sites for
areas that may interest you.

Before you begin the

assignment, you can read
about the concept of how
one would use this type of
site:
http://delicious.com/about

While there are many ways

one can use social
bookmarking, we are simply
going to use del.icio.us to
begin the concept of social
bookmarking and to
complete eight specific
tasks.

Getting Started
Pick a name that
identifies you. This
name will be the
beginning of ALL of your
future del.icio.us
bookmarks.
You will use tags to
organize your bookmarks
into specific categories
(More on Tags below!)
go to the following link and
join: http://delicious.com

Now it’s time to add

buttons, either on the
links bar or integrated
into your browser.
Each browser has a
different way in which
the buttons are
displayed.

Go to:
http://delicious.com/help/
tools
You will find the add ons
or buttons for whatever
browser you are using.

What are TAGS? Go to: http://delicious.com/tag/

Click the link on the right
to learn more about tags.
Each of your bookmarks
for this assignment will
receive at least three
tags.
We will be using the tag
“ed422” and then two
more of your choices
that refer to your
bookmark.
When you are logged in, you
will see that your URL
matches the user name you
chose for yourself.
For example:
http://delicious.com/jheil65
You will also notice that you
have an area for
Network/Tags/Subscriptions/I
nbox

What are the

tasks?
You will be asked to visit 8
sites, bookmark or
“Tag” them, add ‘tags’
and add comments per the
given instructions, which will
be the web-based portion of
the assignment.
Notice that the URL and
Title are automatically filled-
in by Delicious. You only
need to add any necessary
notes and your 3 tags.

You will also be guided to

answer some questions
about the site which you will
either put into a Word
document or typed directly
into WebCT in the
assignment section. This is
the written portion of the
assignment.
