JEAN WATSON S THEORY OF HUMAN CARING

The patient is at the center of everything we do! Our view of nursing, person, environment, and health affects how we interact with patients. Theory of Human Caring emphasizes the humanistic aspects of nursing in combination with scientific knowledge. In this theory it is stated that Nurse s role is to establish caring relationship with patients, treat patients as holistic beings (body, mind and spirit), Display unconditional acceptance and promote health through knowledge and intervention. The theory focuses on the human component of caring and the moment-to-moment encounters between the one giving care and the one cared for. In this theory nursing can be a transforming process through which both the patient and nurse can be changed. It outlines basic premises of nursing and combines a humanistic and scientific approach to patient care. According to Watson, caring is a nurse's identity and when caring is fully actualized, a patient's world can become more secure, brighter, richer and larger.
