SOLUBILITY Pigment Colors are water insoluble but dispersible in water Disperse dyes are water insoluble and also dispersible in water
High energy dyes become soluble > 160 C Medium energy dyes become soluble > 140 C Low energy dyes become soluble > 110 C
Pigment printing
Pigment print pastes are sensitive to increases in temperature and must not be mixed for long periods (heat generation) they should be stored in a cool place and kept covered to prevent skin formation on the paste surface by warm air interacting with the binder. A high pH using volatile amines such ammonia as an important role in print productivity, especially in hot conditions. Pigment particles are dispersed in water with chemicals such as glycols, emulsifiers, dispersants, etc., to give stable dispersions. (Pigment dispersion) The three primary components for pigment printing pastes are Pigment dispersion Binder Thickener
