1. What is deviance?
- the state of deverging from usual or accepted standards especially in
social behavior
2. How do you determine if someone is deviant?
- if someone act or behave against the given set of norms and laws in a
society, organizations, and institutions
3. What is meant by “relativity of deviance?”
- different cultures and subcultures have different set of norms and laws
hence, they have varying ways in determining the deviant person
4. What are examples of behavior considered deviant in one group or culture
but not another?
- In Muslim tradition, unmarried women need to wear headdresses wherein
other culture it is not necessary
- In some existing ancient tribes, cannibalism is part of their culture but for
the others it is completely taboo
- In Muslim culture, polygamy s permitted by with Christians, it is prohibited
and is considered deviant
5. What are examples of behavior considered deviant in all groups or cultures?
- theft
- adultery
- murder
6. What causes a person to be deviant?
- different set of beliefs
- unsatisfied with current set of rules and wants to promote change
- “outdated” point of view
