ASL SHIPYARD BOLLARD PULL TEST PROCEDURE
0. Purpose
This test procedure describes the guidance for bollard pull test on PT.ASL Shipyard Indonesia to
the intended safe & proper operating condition as required.
2. Reference Documents
∼ Class
Requirements & Guidelines;
• ABS
Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessel under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length, Part
5 Chapter 8 Section 6: Tests.
• ABS
Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessel under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length, Part
5 Chapter 8 Appendix 2: Guidelines for Bollard Pull Test Procedure.
• And
or other Class requirements/guidelines if applicable.
3. Safety
All personnel engaged in testing shall be informed about the risks and consequences of wire
(steel wire rope or nylon) failure and keep stay aware during testing.
Test data reading should be easily read from a safe location or a remote readout.
4. Equipments
a. 1(one) set calibrated load cell (dynamometer):
1. Load cell: LEPS Model/Type: TLC150T s/n:712701 cap.150T, wireless module/reflector.
2. Telemetry indicator: LEPS Model/Type: TDM-8 s/n:1000412990 & 100412998 cap.150T,
wireless handheld.
3. LEPS Wireless Load cell System, data logger.
4. PC data logging (Laptop) & printer.
Any change load cell model/type if applicable, to be advised (TBA).
b. Steel wire rope, with soft loop (capacities, TBA).
c. Bow Bolt & Nut Shackle (capacities, TBA).
d. Radio (handy talkie), a two-way voice communication system.
e. Thermometer.
. Hydrometer.
g. Bollard, fixed point ashore.

5. Test Procedure
1. Move the towing vessel to the required position that describe in 5.1.

2. Smoothly extend wire rope to avoid instantaneous spike tension load reading and maintain
towing vessel in steady condition.
3. 1(one) unit Telemetry Indicator should be placed on bridge for load reading reference
onboard.
4. Gradually increased main engine load to maximum continuous rpm (MCR 100%), the
operating condition for bollard pull test measurement and or other required condition
(MCR 50%, 75% & 110%) if applicable.
5. Continuous load cell reading from ashore should be informed to the onboard bollard pull test
officer for reference to determining vessel steady condition with continuous steady tension
load reading indication.
6. Confirmation is required from onboard bollard pull test officer to the ashore officer to start
measurement & recording the tension load reading. Onboard officer should be said
“Start recording now!” on the radio communication to command measurement starting.
7. When onboard confirmation is accepted, the ashore officer should be send a response
by said “Start recording now!” and push the “Start Log” button displayed on the computer,
it is load tension recording begin.
8. Duration of bollard pull test measurement is 5~10 minutes or other duration if applicable.
9. Load tension reading displayed as long measurement duration should be informed
continuously to the onboard by ashore officer.
10. When measurement completed, the ashore officer should be informed to onboard officer by
said “Completed recording!” and push the “Stop Log” button displayed on the computer, it is
load tension recording ended.
11. Testing condition when tension load recording should be recorded by onboard officer and
informed to ashore officer for documentation, i.e.:
