Delaware Choral Society

Search Committee
Dover, DE

Dear Members of the Search Committee,

Please accept these materials as an application for the position of Artistic Director and Conductor of the
Delaware Choral Society.

As a new resident to the state of Delaware I have already begun making contributions to the arts
community in our region. I have helped coordinate what is to be Wesley College’s first-ever joint
performance with the Delaware Symphony, I have organized performances for Downtown Dover’s First
Friday Series, I have brought area church’s together in collaborative performances, and I have established
Wesley College’s Summer Vocal Workshop that is to be held each June. I am passionate about
strengthening the arts in my community, and for this reason I am excited by the prospect of getting to work
with my area’s largest choral ensemble.

My experience in conducting, accompanying, and solo voice performance lends to my qualification for the
position. I have several years’ experience directing large volunteer ensembles including the Boston
University Choral Society (2003-2005) and the University of Nebraska All-Collegiate Choirs (2007-2010).
As a baritone soloist I have sung for several choral societies including those in Manchester, NH, Braintree,
MA, Greensboro, NC and Omaha, NE. As an accompanist I have worked with the Midwest American
Honor Choir’s European tour of 2008 and the Nebraska Boys and Girls State Festival Chorus. This is to
illustrate my experience in working with large choruses from all angles, and my knowledge of what is
required in terms of rehearsal time, paid soloists and instrumentalists, repertoire selection, performance
venues and advanced planning.

I understand this position would involve working closely with a board of directors in selecting venues and
repertoire. I am a team player and I am sensitive to the fact that long-standing organizations have long-
standing traditions. As director of the DCS I would work with the board to execute an artistic vision that
centers on music of a high artistic quality, music that is culturally significant and deserving of our singers
and our community.

Thank you for this opportunity to apply. Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email at any time.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Wilson
