The Ron Clark Story

1. "The Ron Clark Story" starts off with Ron Clark teaching at a
school in Aurora, North Carolina. He soon because a beloved teacher
there. When he know that he can no longer make a difference where
he's at he decides to go to Harlem and get a teaching job at an
elementary school there. When a vacancy opens up at one of Harlem's
toughest school's he jumps in. He soon finds that teaching at this
school is much different than his previos job. The students in his new
class, (Shamika, Taysean, Julio and others) are difficult and disobidient.
They won't listen to any of his rules and continue to direspect him.
Meanwhile, Mr.Clark needed money so he got a job working at a
resturant. He meets a girl there, ......, who becomes a great friend.
When Ron overreeactes when Shamika isnt listening to him one day he
goes off on her, shaking her desk. .... is there to tell Ron that he can
never give up. He goes back to his job at the school and finds new
ways of teaching these students to behave, and the curriculum for the
7th grade. He enforces his rules on the students and eventually they
start to behave. In the movie, the state tests are coming up. The
scores the children recieve on this test will prove to the prinicple, who
has been doubting Ron Clark's abilities, and to the kids themselves
that this 7th grade class has improved greatly. When the students
finally do take to test they all pass, something that has never
happened before. Mr.Clark awards them with a trip to the play, "THe
Phantom of the Opera". On the night of the play he realizes that
Taysean is not there and when looking for him finds that he has been
beaten by his foster father. Ron then takes him to a place he will be
looked after. In the end, Ron Clark has succesfully changed theese kids
lives.

2. There are four main characters in this story, Ron Clark, Shamika
Wallace, Julio Vasquez, and Taysean MItchell. Ron Clark is a hard-
working a dedicated teacher who wants to use what he can do to help
children succeed. He cares very much for his students and will never
give up on them. Shamika Wallace is a girl in Mr. Clark's class. She was
at fist dis-obidient and really annoying. But then was revealed to be a
very smart student. Julio Vasquez is a boy in Ron Clark's same class.
He is the class clown and doesnt really care about school at first. With
help from Mr. Clark becomes a great student. Taysean Mitchell is
another student in the 7th grade class. He has a really had life with his
foster family. He doesnt care about school, or anything for that matter,
and gets in fights often. With the love and care that Mr. Clark shows
him he eventually trys in school and has a changed life.

3. Five short-term goals of Ron Clark are that he can gain the
respect of his students, also he wants to be respected by the other
adults. He wants to make the kids into a family, to know that he never
gave up, and also that he didnt waste the kids time an not get good
results. Two long-term goals that he had were to have the kids pass
and go above and beyond on their state tests. Another goal was to turn
these kids lives around, for the better.

4. Five unconventional teaching methods Ron Clark uses includes:


not letting the students have lunch until they line up in a straight line
and go to the lunch room quietly, keeping the students attention by
telling them he will drink a carton of milk every 15 seconds that they
stay focused, being there on a video camera when he was sick and
could not be there himself, meeting their parents, and meeting at their
houses to help with schoolwork.

5. Five challenges Ron Clark and his students face is when Ron Clark
couldnt get the respect from the honor's class teacher, when he was
kicked out of Shamika's house by her mother when trying to help her
study, when Julio wouldnt turn around in his seat and pay attention,
when Shamika didnt have time to study because of her siblings, and
when Julio's mom didnt care about his schoolwork.

6. Five roadblocks that Ron Clark and his students face is when Ron
Clark was at first denied a teaching position at the school and when
the childrne wouldnt behave and show him respect. For the students,
Taysean was beat by his foster father and when he didnt have a place
to live. Also, when Shamika made Ron Clark quit.

7. A support group for Ron Clark was his students, when they were
trying their hardest he used their effort as inspriation to nnot give up.
For the students, Ron Clark was someone who always supported them
and helped them do their best.

8. Persistence is a huge importance when trying to obtain your goals. If


you just give up you will never accomplish was you want or need to.
Being persisent and always trying your hardest and trying to find ways
around obstacles and people to help you get over those obstacles has
everything to do with reaching your goals.
