C’EST MAGNIFIQUE! FINGER LAKES RIESLINGS WIN GOLD

PENN YAN – Many people believe that Finger Lakes wineries make world-class Riesling,
Anthony Road Wine Co. and two other Seneca Lake wineries proved the point in France
this month.

Competing at the Riesling du monde in Strasbourg, Anthony Road’s 2009 Dry Riesling
captured a Gold Medal. The other Gold Medal winners from the Finger Lakes were Fox
Run Vineyards, for its 2008 Reserve Riesling, and Belhurst Estate Winery’s 2009 Semi-
Dry Riesling.

All three winning wineries are on the west side of Seneca Lake, south of Geneva. The local
wines were up against Rieslings from France, Germany, Luxembourg and several other
nations.

Johannes Reinhardt, Anthony Road’s winemaker, was one of the judges at the competition
in France, which was held April 9 through 11. He did not taste the Anthony Road Rieslings
at the event.

This is not the first year that Anthony Road has tasted success at the Riesling du monde.
Last year, Anthony Road's 2008 Martini-Reinhardt Trockenbeerenauslese won a Trophy of
Excellence, or “Trophee d’Excellence,” the highest award given in the competition, and the
winery’s 2008 Dry Riesling won a Gold Medal.

The 2009 Dry Riesling has been sold out at Anthony Road. Winery officials said the 2010
Dry Riesling is to be bottled soon and will be available for sale late in May.

This year, the Riesling du monde gave Silver Medals to two other Finger Lakes wineries,
according to the competition’s Web site. The winners were Keuka Lake Vineyards’ 2009 Dry
Riesling and Red Tail Ridge Winery’s 2009 Semi-Dry Riesling.
