Writing, Test 3

Part 1:

The four graphs provide an overview of the number of men and women in full and part-
time employment in Australia, in 1973 and 1993.

Comparing the full-time male and female employees in 1973 and 1993, it could be
noticed a considerable contrast between the high number of employed men, reaching the
peak at approximately 95% in 1973 and the slight increase in the female workers number
aged from 15 to 20, followed by a dramatic decline along with the aging process,
reaching under 5% both in 1973 and 1993. A slight decrease from 1973 to 1993 in the
full-time male workers percentage could be noticed, but a similar rise for those aged
between 15 and 25, an indistinguishable stagnation and a steep fall after 50 are observed
during this 20 years period.

Regarding the part-time males and females employees, it could be noticed a difference
between the high percentages from 1993 and lower one from 1973. While the number of
part-time male workers has decreased both in 1973 an 1993 until the age of 40, recording
a marginal increase after 45, the percentage of women rises slowly in 1973 until the age
of 40, gradually declines, stagnates and is sharply increasing by the age of 25 in 1993,
ending with a drop both in 1973 and 1993, after this age reaching the lowest percentage
of 5.

Part 2:

Motivation, as an imperative condition to obtain success, represents the determinative

factor which influences people’s attitudes, desires and actions. Since the very beginning,
sporting championships were significant competitions which valued and rewarded the
best prepared sportsmen. The high level of expectations from both the public and the
sportspersons themselves leaded to an incredible duel of mental, physical and
motivational forces, and a greater sense of satisfaction after achieving the expected
results. In the present technology era, sports shows are less challenging, because of their
imminent connection to the negative impact of business.

Firstly, the decline of sports championships quality has a powerful undesirable influence
among young people. As the mass-media offer a distorted image of what being famous or
financially strong implies, children are prone to believe that a sport competition
represents an opportunity to win a prize or to become a celebrity. This dramatic decline
would lead to impossibility for young people to be sustained by the intrinsic motivation.
As a consequence, their performances and their level of expectancy would dangerously
decrease, leading, at a global scale, to the decline of the modern society values system.

Secondly, this superficial attitude regarding sports would lead to an imminent

disappearance of the quality of the sports themselves. People are not willing to compete
only for the sports’ sake and this negative factor could lead to a lower level of the sports
standards. As there is only the financial aspect which grabs the attention of the worlds’
leaders, the quality level of sports decreases dramatically, resulting, in the near future, in
a total lack of respect for these beneficial activities.

In conclusion, the misleading messages from mass-media related to the mirage of the
celebrities’ life and the power of financial background affect the quality of sports
competitions, leading to an irreversible decline in its quality. Not only would the history
of the sports themselves suffer from this inadequacy in valuing championships for their
spiritual benefits, but also the children’ performances would be reduced. Consequently,
people should establish an axiological system in order to ban the imminent disaster of the
sports competitions.
