GAINSEVILLE –Zoo staff and Santa Fe Community College students will be providing

a safe, fun Halloween experience during the Boo at the Zoo event, Oct. 31, at the Santa

Fe Community College Teaching Zoo in order to collect canned food items to donate to

local food banks for the holiday season.

Fanny Navarro, zoo education specialist said, “This is a family oriented event

where the community comes together to enjoy a night of safe trick-or-treating while

making a difference during the holiday season.”

The Santa Fe Community College Center for Student Leadership and Activities,

Publix Supermarket Charities, radio station The Sky 97.3 FM News Talk Radio and 98.5

KTK are helping sponsor this food collecting event.

The 11th annual event runs from 3 pm to 7:30 pm, and bringing just one canned

food item per person will get you in the door.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and both children and adults are

encouraged to come dressed in a costume.

“You don’t have to be a child to enjoy it,” Navarro said.

The purpose of Boo at the Zoo is to add value to the lives of students, enrich the

community, and to improve the future of wildlife.
