The Philippines was named “Best New Promising Destination,” a major award in the
recently concluded Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) held in New Delhi and Mumbai in
India last February 18 – 26, 2011.
The OTM is the longest running, largest and most reputable travel mart in India, which
was participated in this year by 56 countries. The event was held right before a major
outbound travel season in Mumbai and New Delhi, two Indian major cities that generate
the largest outbound traffic.
Aside from the major award, Department of Tourism’s (DOT) booth in Mumbai was also
recognized as the “Most Decorative Booth.”
DOT-Team India Head, Raymund Glenn Agustin, who led the 15-man Philippine
delegation, said the participation to this year’s OTM is to sustain the renewed
momentum of interest from the Indian travel sector and to ensure that the country’s
tourist destinations are included in the tour packages of Indian tour operators.
The DOT’s delegation to the event was composed of representatives from various
travel and tour companies, hotels and resorts, and Philippine Airlines (PAL).
