Whatgivesbridge such a unique statusis the depth of the
‘game. Bridge is a combination of many elements: logical
thinking, intuitive judgment, cooperation between
pittners deduction, imagination deception, probabilities
‘and psychology. Luck, however, is of minimal importance
in the long run. Bridge is easy to learn, yet the rewards
it brings are immeasurable. It is the aim of our club to
foster interest in this great game. And at the same time,
Wwe provide the sole legitimate opportunity for boys to
play cards at school!
Throughout the school year general meetings were held
very Monday and Friday after school where members
practiced and improved their skills. We had on average
three to four tables in each meeting, Newcomers were
taught how to play, and many have stayed with us ever
since. Itwwas most encouraging to spot many promising
playersin Forms 3 and 5. The bridge population at school
has tripled since three years ago, and the standard of
bridge-playing is steadily improving. We hope this trend
will continue in the years to come.

For the third year in a row the Bridge Club sold DBS
playing cards in the Garden Fete. A design featuring the
Steps was added last year to the two existing designs,
which showed the main building and the school tie
respectively. These DBS playing cards made in the last
three years are the fist ever produced in the history
of DBS. Over 700 packs were sold and a huge sum was
raised for the school. As these cards will not be reprinted
in at least another decade, you should consider buying
cone while stocks last at the next Garden Fete!
The organizations responsible for holding secondary
school bridge competitions were relatively quiet this
year. till, ur players had marvelous achievernents in the
events they participated in. A pair of Lower 6 students
captured second runner-up in a pair event in November
‘Another pair ranked third in a match-point pait in April

Our club aims to introduce the interesting aspects of road
transport, railway and aviation to students
We kicked off this year after the election of the new
executive committee and sub-committee members. Our
annual general meeting, in which we introduced our
annual plan to our members, was held in October.
Our first activity was a visit to the the Airport Fire Station,
which responds to all accidents in Chep Lap Kok. The
firemen introduced to our members different types of
fire engines which are specially designed for putting out
aviation fires. Our members also enjoyed learning about
the procedures of airport rescue work.
In November, we held a visit to the ORBIS Flying Eye
Hospital DC-10. Every two years,
‘ORBIS brings its Flying Eye Hospital
to Hong Kong for a two-week visit,
during which its staff_members
meet donors and promote eye care,
We were most fortunate to be one
ofthe few groups that were allowed
toboard the Flying Eye Hospital. We
visited the laser treatment room
and the operation room, where
doctors and nurses explained their
‘work and shared their experiences,
as volunteers for ORBIS.
