Internet Users of All Ages
Equally Likely To Use Email
Internet users of all ages are
equally likely to use email, but habits
diverge in the use of other online
communication and informational
‘methods. Not surprisingly tens and
Generation ¥ (age 18-28) ae sign-
icantly more likely than older users
tosend and receive instant messages,
play online games, create blogs,
search for school information, and
download music, according to the
latest data memo, "Generations
Online," from the Pew Internet &
American Life Project (www:pewin-
termetorg). Those users ated 29-69
are most likely to engage in financial
transactions online, such as making
travel reservations and using online
banking. Buying a product online is
equally popular with all Internet
users except those at either end of
the age scale: teens and those ages
70 or older.
About 90 percent ofall Internet
users send or receive email. Even
‘teens stll use it more than instant
messaging (89 vs. 75 percent),
although they sy they prefer the lat
ter. While 89 percent ofthose online
users older than 70 use email, only
26 percent of Americans ages 70-75
and 17 percent of those ages 76 or
‘older go online.
