Assistant City Manager
suuner St Patrick's Day Celebration/Open Containers and Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages
Officers assigned to the St Patrick's Day events along Greenville Avenue will be more
strictly enforcing the Open Container and Consumption of Alcohol Ordinance (Section 6-
6.1). In past years there have been large numbers of people openly consuming alcoholic
beverages outside the permitted event, which ultimately leads to interference with the
quality of life for area residents and businesses. In the past, officers have been instructed
to have violators pour out their alcoholic beverages, rather than attempt the overwhelming
task of enforcing the Consumption Ordinance,
Quality of life violations continue to be the number one complaint of both area residents
and business, In order to address their concems, officers will be citing those observed
consuming alcoholic beverages outside the permitted event, ‘These efforts will be focused
primarily along the main thoroughfares leading to and from the event, This will not be a
zero tolerance effort and officers, as in past years, will be directed to utilize discretion. It
is believed this enforcement of the ordinance will address the concerns of those in the area,
along with making for a safer atmosphere during the events.
