‘SUCTION PIPING
>The suction pipe should employ the flooded suction
method if possible. The shortest pipe possible, with 2
minimum number of bends, should be designed
Arrange a prape support along th suction pipe so that
the load and thermal sivas ofthe pipe itself are nat
applied tothe pump.
> Attach the coupling onthe suction pipe carefully sothat
no ait enters the line, Air in the suction pipe may
prevent priming ofthe pump,
>If ho suction conditioning isnot good 9. the suction
tank is 2 vacuum, the suction head is large, ar the
suction pip i long], NPSHA should always be at least
2 feet greater than NSPHR.
> When a bend is used on the suction side, install
straight pipe which is mare than 20 inches long or 10
times as long asthe suction ont diameter before the
suction port of the purmp. Use the largest posible
radius of curvature forthe bend,
> Do not allow any projection where a may be trapped
along the suction pipe. The suction pipe shoul have an
ascending gradiont toward the pump.
>If the diameters ofthe pump suction pot and suction
ipe are diferent, use an ecnantic reducer pipe
Connect the eccentric reducer pipe such thatthe upper
pat of itis level Never use a suction pipe with a
tiameter smaller than that ofthe pump suction pot
> When using the flooded suction method, the suction
pipe should be given a sight ascenting gradient toward
the pum so that no air packet is created on the
suction sie,
> The end ofthe suction pipe shoul be located 2¢ inches
or mere below the surface ofthe liquid
> A scteen shouldbe provided at the inlet in the suction
tank to prevent the entry of foreign mater into the
suction pie. Foreign matter may cause malfunctioning of
‘the pump The end of the suction pipe shouldbe 1-1 5D
(or more away from the bottom af the suctin tank
(O:ciameter of suction pipe,
> When using the suction it method, install a foot vale
‘on the suction pipe, unless the pump is designed as
salt priming,
>When using the flooded suction method, itis
recommended that a gate valve be installed on the
sutton pe to enable easier overhaul inspection ofthe
pum. Since this vale is used only in the overhaul
inspection of the pump, keep it fully opened during
xml pure operation.
> Pay clase attention tothe lowest level ofthe liquid i
the suction tark so that air entrainment to the suction
piping wil not occu
vO77+024+5787
The inllow pipe int the suction tank should be
clstanced from the suction pipe and positioned below the
liquid surface level as a means of preventing air
entrainment 10 the suction pipe. it air bubbles are
generated inthe suction tank, instal battle
> [tis recommended 1 instal vacuunpressure gauge
on the suction piping approximatly 6 diameters fam
‘the pum suction flan,
DISCHARGE PIPING.
> Usa proper pipe supports so thatthe weight of the
piping does not load the pump nara.
> Hla method other then flooded suction is sod, install a
special pe fr priming
>If the piping very long, is diameter should be
determined by calculating the piping resistance
Otherwise, the specified performance may nat be
cbtained due to increased piping resistance,
> A.chack valve should be installed if any ofthe folowing
condition exists in te piping
1 Te cicharge piping is very ong.
2. The scharge head is 50 feet ox more
3. The end of the discharge pipe is 30 feet higher
than the surfaoe ofthe suction tank.
4, Sovral pumps are comected in paral withthe
same piping
> The instalation of a gat valve on the discharge pipe is
recommended forthe adjustment of discharge quantity
and for the prevention of motor overioad. When
instaling both a check anda gate va, the check valve
should be postoned between the puma and the gate
vol.
> A pressure gauge shouldbe installed on the discharge
Piping
> An air bleeding valve
should be installed if
‘the discharge pige is
very tong in the
horizontal dretion.
>A drain vale should
be installed for the
drainage of liquid it
there isa chance that
the liquid in the
discharge pipe will
freeze
