Experiment No.

: 01

Experiment Name:
Calculate the net winding rate, traverse rate and production per shift of 8hrs by using a cone
winding m/c. Also find out the actual & calculated winding rate after 5min, 10min, and
15min. Also find out the slippage percentage.

Object:
1. To know about the winding mechanism.
2. To sketch the diagram of the mechanism.
3. To find out the traverse rate, angle of wind and net winding rate.
4. To compare the Vs and Net winding rate.
5. To find out the actual & calculated winding rate.
6. To find out the slippage percentage.

Specification:

Motor r.p.m. =960

Motor pulley dia. = 4”
M/C pulley dia. = 7”
Motor pulley dia. = 7.1” (to drum shaft)
M/C pulley dia. = 11/4”
Teeth of pinion = 24
Teeth of gear wheel = 40
Drum dia. = 1.75”
No. of drum = 5
Calculation:

RPM of traverse cam = 960 x 4/7 x 24/40 = 329.14

Traverse rate = RPM of traverse cam X 2 X length of traverse

= 329.14 × 2 × 6
= 3949.68
Drum shaft speed = 960x 7.1/11 x 4 = 2478.54 r.p.m.

Surface speed of drum = 3.14 x 2478.54 x 1.75 =13619.60

Production/ shift (For 5 drums) of the m/c.

For 85% efficiency = 13619.60 x 5 x 60 x 8 ×1/36 x 85/100 yds/shift

= 771777.33 yds/shift. 1
Now, since the given cotton count = 30’s
Production/shift of the m/c for 85% efficiency = 771777.33 x 1/30 x 1/840
= 30.62 lb/shift.
