GE 2111 – Engineering Graphics
(Common to all branches) – (Afternoon Batch)
Exam : CAT – II Date : 06.12.2010
Time : 3 hours Max. Marks : 100 Marks.
Faculty : Mr. Sakthikumar C
Instructions:
1. Answer all the questions.
2. Use appropriate scale if necessary, to fit the solution within A3 size.
3. Use Angle of Projection as First Angle for freehand sketching and represent it.
1. A hexagonal prism of base side 30mm and axis 80mm rests on HP with two of its corners. The base plane is
perpendicular to VP is inclined at 400 to HP. Draw its projection.
2. (a) A pyramid of height 75mm rests on HP with its equilateral triangle base of 35 mm with one of its base edge
parallel to both HP, VP and far from VP. It is cuts by a sectional plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 60
degree to HP at the distance of 20 mm from the apex. Draw the sectional front view and true shape of the
section.
(or)
2. (b) A hexagonal prism of side 20 mm and length 70 mm rests on HP with its axis being vertical and one edge of
its base inclined at 150 to VP. The solid is cut by a plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 400 to HP and bisects
the axis of the solid. Draw the projection of solid and true shape of the section.
3. (a) (i) Draw the projection of the following points on a common reference line. Take 40 mm distance between
the projections. (05)
a) P, 25 mm above HP and 30 mm behind VP
b) Q, on both HP and VP
c) R, on VP and 20 mm below HP
d) S, 40 mm infront of VP and 30 mm below HP
e) T, 35 mm below HP and behind VP.
3. (a) (ii) A line CD 70 mm long has its end A, 35 mm above HP and 30 mm infront of VP. The top view and front
view has a length of 45 mm and 60 mm respectively. Draw its projection. (15)
(or)
3. (b) The midpoint of the line RS 90 mm long is 60 mm above HP and 50 mm infront of VP. It is inclined at 300 to
HP and 450 to VP. Draw its projections.

4.(a) A cone of base radius 20 mm and height 70 mm has its base on the ground. It is cut by a plane makes an
angle of 450 to VP, perpendicular to HP and is passing 15 mm on the plan axis. Draw the sectional elevation and
true shape of the section.
(or)
4.(b) A thin pentagonal lamina of 60 mm long edges rests on HP with one of its corners. Draw its projections
when the surface of the lamina makes 45º with HP. The top view of the line joining the centre of the plane and
the resting corner in HP is inclined at 30º to VP.
5. (a) Sketch by freehand, the following views of the object shown in Figure.
The dimensioning is also to be marked by freehand.
a) The front view from X,
b) The Top View,
c) The Side View, as viewed from the side available for view.
(or)
5. (b) Sketch by freehand, the following views of the object shown in Figure.
The dimensioning is also to be marked by freehand.
a) The front view from X,
b) The Top View,
c) The Side View from Y.
