Design and Testing of Active first order

high pass and low pass filter circuits.
(Experiment #9)
Objective:
Design of active high pass ad low pass filters and measurement of its frequency response
characteristics. On completion of this experiment one should be able to design a active
filter of first order, measure its frequency response.

Equipment:
Instruments
DC power supply (Dual mode), Function generator, CRO (Dual trace)

Components
OPAMP: µA741, Resistor and capacitor of assorted values.

Procedure:
1. Connect the circuit as given in fig below for high pass filter (R and C values should
be based on your design criteria).
2. Connect the unction generator output to the input terminal and observe the output on
CRO. The input should be on trace-1 and output on trace-2.
3. Observe and record the output when the frequency is varied over the range f/50 to
50f. (f is the filter cutoff frequency)
4. Plot the frequency response curve, i.e gain Vs frequency.
5. Repeat the exercise for low pass filter

6. Tabulate the high-pass filter observation with similar table.

7. Plot the frequency response of both the filters on semi-log graph paper and using MS-
Excell.
