1. In general, are the store layout, design, and visual
merchandising techniques used consistent with the
exterior of the store and layout?

Interior Store Design


BIG BAZAAR used to follow a free store layout form. There is no fixed store format
anything placed in the store are placed strategically. Store format which BIG
BAZAAR broadly follows are Departmental stores, Malls, E-Retailers.

In departmental store format, BIG BAZAAR exhibits an arrangement of merchandise


in freeform layout. This type of layout allows people to move freely and encourage
people to browse and shop with convenience. The floor space is allocated
proportionately as the contribution of the particular department to the business. For
example an entire floor has been allocated to the Men’s segment since it is
contributing the majority of the business.
When it comes to arranging the clothes, same type of clothes are put up together in
different sizes so that same clothes are available for every size at one point only.
BIG BAZAAR follows a theme based interior, like a corner is assigned to every
brand and that brand put up its product as per its liking. Also the posters and ads for
discounts and offers for them are put up there only Exteriors of BIG BAZAAR stores
are very attractive & eye catchy. They put up fresh fashion collections on the
dummies on the entrance.

Exterior Store Design


Exterior of a store is generally designed such a way that it can clearly communicate
what types of customers are expected inside. Good exterior visual merchandising
attracts attention, creates interest and invites the customer into the business.

Clothes and accessories are placed nicely in show window of the store. At night the
whole building is brightly lit up focusing the name plate at the top. The entrance is
automatic door closing system. There is always somebody present to greet the
customer at the entrance. At entrance there are separate counters for cash counter
and green card holders.

At the entrance and at the exterior to the store different signage are place to
communicate the promotional schemes.

2. Does the store look like need to be redesigned?

As we taken BIG BAZAAR store for this project the question is Does the store look like need
to be redesigned for this I will say no because the design ok BIG BAZAAR is already very
good and very attractive like when we talk about the store design of BIG BAZAAR it is like
when we enter in the store we find a very well arranged of everything it is like when thing
what we find after entering on the left hand side we find apparels of BIG BAZAAR and after
that we see casual wears like T-shirt half pants hangs around every where and To attract the
customers in BIG BAZAAR store we can see many things is hanging everywhere around the
store and sports posters makes the store good looking and one more thing which is very

attractive transparent glass of the store it is look good when u can see store from outside it
drag out customers from outside to the store because the store design in a way which can be
attracted any one very easily so the store need not to be redesigned. BIG BAZAAR’s store
design is omnipresent in each and every of its store.

3. Evaluate the store signage. Does it do an effective job of


selling merchandise?

BIG BAZAAR has a very beautiful ambiance that starts with a large attractive entry
door that is well decorated and have a uncluttered look, BIG BAZAAR believes that
if the entry point is attractive and uncluttered it gives a positive impression of the
store. Compared to other stores BIG BAZAAR have a very simple design and sober
looks. The signages enable the costumers to navigate through the store very easily.
Interestingly what we have observed is that BIG BAZAAR has deliberately kept
some related products near their popular in-season apparels that are expensive in
order to sell them to impulsive buyers.

4. Ask the store manager how the profitability of space is


evaluated. Is there a better approach?

To determine the profitability of space, store managers of BIG BAZAAR calculate


two ratios.

Stock Turnover Ratio:

Number of units sold


Stock turn =---------------------------------------------
. Average number of units carried in stock

Profit per Square Foot:

Gross Profit
Profit per Square Foot =---------------------------
Sq. ft. of selling space

The store pays emphasis on the movement of the inventory keeping in view
that which category of product is not selling more based upon the discussion
with the floor staff and assessing the current trends they try to club the low

selling products with the high selling products thereby pushing the sales,
However ample care is taken that the customer is satisfied with the offerings.
During the visit we were informed by the store manager that their daily target is Rs.
2 crore and it is divided accordingly in such a manner that if they do not achieve the
target it will be carry forward to the very next day.

Q-5 Has the retailer used to organize merchandise in the best


way? Is there a better way?

Inside the BIG BAZAAR store the merchandise is organized in a way very structured which
allows the customers to go directly towards the department which interest them. So we have
on one side the accessories and another the clothes. Knowing that those two last ones are
divided into several parts depending on customer’s need. Casual, sports, party wear and
also depending on the sex of the person woman or man.

There is not a better way to sell its products knowing that flagship products and novelties are
emphases in shop windows to catch the eye of the customer and to invite him to enter the
store where he will find in the middle of the store other flagship products of the brand.

Shelves are not overloaded and with spotlights which give some permanently light to
products, what allows the customer to have a clear vision of products. There are benches
which allow the customers to sit down to try shoes and also cabins to try clothes.

The customer can walk in the store without being block by products because the central
space of the store is relatively empty to allow exactly a better traffic of the customers.

This organization very spaced out allows the customer it can look at all the products without
making effort but it also allows the customer to go directly towards the wished product and
thus not to look necessarily at all other products, which is a bad point for sales.

Those techniques of organization are used all over the world in stores BIG BAZAAR stores
and showed according to the sales realized by the company. Moreover those techniques are
also used by competitors of BIG BAZAAR like VISHAL MEGA MART thus we can say that it
is currently the best way.
