Answer any Three questions
All questions carry equal marks and right hand figures indicate maximum marks
Discuss the growth of Power in India from 1948 9 till date
Give the comparison between steam, hydro-electric and nuclear power plants.
Explain () Magneto Hydro Dynamics (MHD) (i) Tidal Energy (Ill) Wind Energy
and (iv) Biomass
What is meant by corona? What are the various factors which effect corona? How
can the corona effect be minimized? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages
of corona.
A certain 3-phase equilateral transmission line has a total corona loss of 53 kW at
106 kV and a loss of 98 kW at 110.9 kV. What is the disruptive critical voltage
between lines? What is the corona loss at 113 kV?
Name the static device that absorbs the reactive power.
Three generators are rated as follows
Generator 1 : 100 MVA, 33 kV, reactance
Generator 2: 150 MVA, 32 kV, reactance
Generator 3: 110 MVA, 30 KV, reactance = 12%
Choosing 200 MVA and 35 KV as base quantities, compute per unit reactance of
the three generators referred to these base quantities. Draw the reactance
diagram and mark per unit reactances. The three generators are connected to
common bus-bars
Explain EHV-Ac and HVDC transmission line on the basis of economical ground.
technical ground and reliability based performances
An existing three-phase, double circuit AC line is to be converted to three-circuit
OG line. Assuming the same insulation level and unity power factor in ac system,
show that (a) the ratio of power transmitted by dc to that by ac is equal to/2. and
(0) the ratio of percentage loss by de to that by ac is equal to 1/2
