A.

Specifically what is the order you wrote

3 for Glucophage, the dosage and frequency?

1 that.

Q.

4

It was 500 b.i.d. That's two times a day.

5 And his blood sugar was supposed to be checked about

6 three or four times a day.

7

Q.

And tell me about the sliding scale. What

8 is this formula?

9

A.

The formula the blood sugar greater than

10 200 they have to subtract hundred from the blood sugar

11 and divide it by 30 and give him that number of

12 insulin. That's the number of units given to him.

13 Q. And when you wrote this order did you

14 expect the nurses and other CMA providers at the

15 Fulton Jail to follow them?

16 17

A.

Yes.

Are there protocols that say that when you

18 write an order like this they should be followed?

Q.

19 20

A.

I don't recall.

I mean I don't remember.

Q.

If you wrote this order unless someone

21 else, a doctor or another nurse practitioner, says no,

22 no, no, this is wrong, you would expect these orders

23 to be followed?

24 25

A.

Q.

Yes.

Would it have been acceptable for another

1 doctor who see him on the diabetic floor, who probably

2 saw him in a few days and then decide on what regimen

3 to put him on.

4 Q. You've previously testified today, I

5 believe, that you did not change his regimen.

6 7

A.

I did not change his regimen. What I did

was put him on the safest

he was on like

8 Glucophage, which was the safest stuff. And he never

9 -- he didn't say anything again about any more any

10 other of that other medication he was on. So that was

11 the safest medication.

12

Q.

If he was taking 30 units of Lantus and

13 you prescribed him regular insulin according to

14 sliding scale is that a change of his regimen?

15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22

MR. DAUGHERTY: Object to the form.

THE WITNESS: Again, that wasn't a change because I didn't change anything. Regular insulin is coverage, is a coverage for blood sugar, for high blood sugar until he gets to his regular until we get a baseline as to what he

was on.

Q.

(By Mr. DeWoskin)

But you've also

23 testified, I believe, that Lantus is different than

24 regular insulin?

25

A.

Both of them are insulin except for the
