The former extremely dangerous routes to South-Europe for refugees from Iraq,
Afghanistan, Somalia, Eritrea via North of Africa and the Mediterranean Sea
have been stopped by bi-national and European treaties with Libya.
32,000 refugees is quite hard for a small country like Greece, which hasn´t
implemented any procedural asylum structures, but is not too difficult to cope
with for the European Union with member states like Germany, which was
absolutely capable to examine hundred thousands of asylum applications per
year not too long ago.
In the last months European Court of Human Rights decided in many cases to
stop transfers to Greece. Norway, Denmark, Island, Belgium, The Netherlands
and the United Kingdom don´t transfer their asylum seekers to Greece anymore.
Germany instead insists on transfers to Greece according the Dublin
Regulations except for especially vulnerable groups like separated children,
victims of torture.
The decision of the court is expected not before end of January 2011…
