SCANNING AND RESOLUTION EXERCISE

Resolution plays a very important part in how you save your images. Their intended use is what
determines things such as color, size and resolution. Settings for print will be completely different
than those for web or email purposes.

You will be scanning the images you have brought with you. Final resolution on all should be
based on the section. This project will be due at the beginning of class, 11-2.

A) 3-Grayscale images - 300dpi - All saved as EPSs


1) 3” Tall
2) 5” Wide
3) Cropped Horizontal to a 4”x6”

B) 3-CMYK Color Images - 300dpi - All saved as TIFs


4) 3” Tall
5) 5” Wide
6) Cropped Vertical to a 4”x6”

C) 3-RGB Color Images - 72dpi - All saved as JPGs
7) 800 pixels Tall
8) 1200 pixels Wide
9) Cropped Horizontal to 1024p x 700p

You will learn:


What resolution is and what determines it
How to select scale
How to choose dpi (resolution)
How to specify specific colors - monotone, duotone
How to crop the image
Differences in Photoshop file types
How to use Image Size palette
How to use Canvas Size palette
How to Crop an Image

You will turn in:


1 Folder with labeled “Your Name-Photo2” containing 9 files listed below
3 Grayscale EPSs, 3 Color TIFs, 3 Color JPGs (web optimized)

Due at the beginning of class on 11-1.

You will be graded on:


Scanning, sizes, resolutions, color modes and formats of images listed above

Each image will be graded separately then averaged together for the final grade.
