EVENTS

TRACK EVENTS
The running and hurdling
competition makes up the track
events.
Track events consists of running
events. It is divided into 3 namely;
sprint, middle and long distance
events.
SPRINT EVENTS:
100 METER DASH
200 METER DASH
400 METER DASH
4X100 METER RELAY
4X400 METER RELAY
MIDDLE DISTANCE EVENTS:
800 METER RUN
1500 METER RUN
LONG DISTANCE RUNNING:
3000 METER RUN
5000 METER RUN
10000 METER RUN

BASIC RULES
TRACK EVENTS
I. THE START
 1. The starter’s assistant checks the athlete’s names,
their numbers,position according to heat, and lane
assingments.
2. Up to and including 400m events. The athletes
must see starting blocks with both hands and one
knee in contact with the ground.
The stater orders the athletes to take their marks and
to get set. Then he fires his gun.
II. General purpose in Track Events

1. There is only one false start allowed per


race. After the first false start, runners who
false start will be disqualified.
2.Pushing and tripping will result in
immediate disqualification.
3.Crossing of lanes is not allowed.
4.In relays, batons re to be handed off, not
to be tossed or thrown.
JUDGES OF THE FINISH
The judge positions himself on the
side of the track, on the extension on
the finish line.
The athlete must be judged only with
his chest crossing the finish line.
Don’t speak to each other.
Be objective and impartial
LAP SCORER
A board indicating the number of
remaining laps should be located
in the finish line for races 800 m
and over.
A bell will ring once the athletes
cross to finish line and begin their
final lap.
TRACK UMPIRES
The athletes should make sure that
they do not leave their lanes and
impede other competitors
For hurdle races. Make sure hurdles
do not overlap each other.
For relays, before the race, in the take-
off zones, make sure that each athlete
is in the correct lane.
SAFETY MEASURES IN TRACK EVENTS
Wear prescribed P.E. Uniforms
Prepare the materials needed.
See to it that the venue is free from obstraction and
hazardouz objects.
Start the activity with warm-up exercise.
The medical condition of the students should be
properly checked prior to activities.
During the activity, avoid crossing lanes when running
is on-going
Avoid chewing gums during the race.
For those wearing glasses and or
protective gogles, a device for
holding goggles in place should be
used.
Jewelry is prohibited during any
match.
