LESSON PLAN
Do Now: Write four different reasons that people might use a map.
Engage

Lead students through discovery
Explore
Students will create a “map types” foldable for the purposes of learning and study.
Students will be led through a slideshow and discussion of various map types and asked to categorize them
as a class.
Students will complete a “Map Walk” gallery walk—walking around the room examining different examples of
maps, categorizing them, and justifying their answers.
How will you know the students have learned the objectives? (reflection, check for understanding)
Evaluate
N/A (Students will complete an exit quiz on Friday, October 8th…after the second portion of the lesson.
MODIFICATION
GT: Students will be asked to evaluate maps based on material covered from previous day.
