Re: Our Latest Poll
Date: October 7, 2010
This analysis represents the findings of a survey of 400 likely general election voters in the 6th Congressional District of
Kentucky. Respondents were interviewed by telephone September 29-30, 2010. The study is based on a registration-
based sample that simulates the likely 2010 electorate. The margin of error for this survey is +/-4.9% at the 95% level of
confidence. The margin of error is larger for subgroups.

Ben Chandler’s independent leadership is striking the right chord with his constituents. With only
one month until the election, Chandler holds a wide lead over his opponent, Andy Barr. In addition,
the Congressman’s support is above the critical 50% threshold—a sign that his message is resonating
with the 6th district. That 50% mark is vital because it means that even if every undecided voter
broke to the challenger, an unlikely scenario, Congressman Chandler would still be reelected. The
results in our survey are similar to those in the recent cn|2 poll, which also showed Chandler with
majority support and a double-digit lead.

In our recent survey, a majority of the likely electorate (52%) prefer Chandler, while only 40%
support Barr. A small percentage (8%) remains undecided. Chandler’s strong support (39%) nearly
matches Barr’s total support and well outpaces the 29% that support Barr strongly. Chandler leads
among key subgroups as well. Ideological moderates prefer the Congressman by a wide berth, 64%
to 26%. Chandler also maintains a double-digit lead (52% to 42%) among voters who consistently
show up at the polls.

The cn|2 poll gives Chandler a slightly greater 14-point advantage (51%-37%).
