Chapter I
Particulate Model of Matter
Oxygen
atom
Hydrogen
atom° It is fascinating to watch the fishes in an
aquarium. They dart about randomly in all
directions.We describe such movement as
random and continuous motion. The fishes
represent the gas particles and move about
in a 3-dimensional manner-up and down,
right and left, front and back, and soon.¢ . The fishes reverse direction when they
reach one end of the fish tank, like the gas
particles which bounce off the walls of a gas
container. However, gas particles are so tiny
that we are unable to see them with our
naked eyes. Just imagine these gas particles
doing a frenzied dance around you now.
