Why MOOD I?
Bushra, event manager of Live Gig, says, "Many brands are ready to spend for the events as it provides a stage to communicate with the target audience. The youngsters have the persuasive power; they can motivate their parents to buy a specific brand. It is different from watching an advertisement."
Companies look to reach out to a consumer base of 30,000- 60,000 over four to five days. "Such events are an ideal platform for brands like ours to connect with the youth. Firstly, we believe in catching them young as customers. Once they like the product, they are likely to stick with the brand in the coming years," says Nokia India head of marketing Vineet Taneja.
The richness of ideas ensures such events are a huge draw.
The concepts range from international performance to training workshops. For instance, Moodl has won itself a place in the Limca Baok of Records for the highest number of international performers at a college festival. 11 had 50 performance including one by the Grammy-nominated UK band Porcupine Tree.
"Cultural festivals are a good platform for below-the-line activities targeted at the youth."
We get involved in events that suit our larger programme - recruitment. We are a premium employment brand and this networking gives us more visibility and long-term connectivity.
"In the long run, it's a good opportunity to create recall value as these are premier institutions with a great reservoir of talent, "
"We believe in adding value to the festival. We don't indulge in any overt branding or sales pitch since we do not like to interfere with the look and feel of the festival."
Sponsors of college fests now go beyond funding to find innovative ways for greater contact with their target audience.
Suresh Kumar, Director, Mindspark Consulting, says most brands see col/ege fests as a vehicle to supplement their core marketing campaign. "So, it works as a reminder medium to enhance a brand's visibility among youth."
