Introduction to geometry in everyday life:

The word 'geometry' means earth measurements. Geometry plays a vital role in
everyday life. Practical application of geometry is abundant. Geometry is useful in
making things especially in construction work like houses, bridges, monuments, and
many more things. Geometrical tools are also used in everyday life. Pi is one of the
important development in geometry which is used in different fields.

Geometry in everyday life - nature:

Different fruits, leaves and flowers have geometrical shape depending upon the area in
which they are found. For example, pine leaves are thin and have sharp tip giving it a
shape like cone, the leaves of lotus are circular so that the surface area is bigger and the
leaves can float easily on water. Fruits like oranges, lemon are spherical in shape
whereas cashew fruits have a peculiar shape. Different geometrical shapes are seen once
the fruits are cut into half like in kiwi, orange, apple etcf. Even vegetables have different
geometric shapes, like carrot, radish are conical in shape whereas beetroot, tomato, onion
are spherical in shape. Egg plant is oval in shape.

A spider web is the best example of geometry seen in nature. The outer shell of a turtle
also have geometric shapes and patterns on it. Mountains look like a pyramid. When a
stone is dropped into the still water of a pond, the design so formed is geomtric shape.
Geometry in Everyday Life in Art and Architecture
Different houses and buildings are build in different geometric shapes to give a new look
as well as to provide good air and light flow inside the house. Geometrical tools like
protractor, ruler, measuring tape, and many more are used in construction work,
astronomy, for measurements, drawing etc. Different art forms are made by joining
different geometric shapes together.

Geometry is used in cooking also. For example if we need to make a round-shaped cake,
first of all we need a round base plate, then measuring cups to measure different
ingredients. Different appliances and utensils are having geometric shape or they follow
some geometric principle. The shape of the burner is round with small holes which are
also round in shape because the flame should heat the utensil evenly from all sides. All
the pans which we use to cook have mostly circular base or oval in shape, again the
surface area is big which helps in cooking the food faster.

GEOMETRY IN ASTRONOMY:

In astronomy, geometric shapes help to understand the location of different planets, solar
system, and different stars. Our planets are spherical in shape. The orbits are oval in
shape. Many geometrical principles and equipments are used in astronomy. Many
important calculations and finding made in astronomy is possible with the help of
geometry

Geometry in Everyday Life - Sports

In every sports geometry is a vital part from sports material to the ground where it is
played. For example basketball is spherical in shape and the place where it is played is
square in shape. Relay Race is played in an oval shaped racing track and the stick is
cylindrical in shape. In carom, the board is rectangular in shape whereas the coins are
circular in shape. All the boards and play area for each sports is measured and made
under some geometrical theory and principles.
