TYPE - Type on a Path/Type in a Shape/Masking

ASSIGNMENT: We will be working with photos, type and masking in this assignment. Choose
two related photos (a bird and sky, fish and water), one of which will be a mask of the other.
Trace around one image and then make that shape a mask over your second photo.

Title the piece by using the Type on a Path tool on a copy of your masking path. Choose a
poem, explanation of your subject or other relevantnt writing to fit inside your mask. Your type
will conform to the shape of the mask you created.

Repeat the process above with two additional images.

How to make a mask from a traced shape
How to stroke and copy type on top of itself
How to set type on a line/path w/baseline shift


Due at the beginning of class on 10-4

Turn In: 2 - 8.5”x11” Illustrator files, each containing one masked photo/type combinations.

Grading Criteria: You will be graded on the use of tools you have learned, as well as following
directions. Smoothness of mask will be examined and correct use of type
around and within the mask will be a factor in grading. Type must be
outlined. If the document can not be opened, no grade will be awarded. Files
must be saved correctly.
