Dear Parish Family,
Today is the 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time. The life
of the parish is getting back to its usual rhythm. Our
Religious Ed classes will have their third class this
weekend. Also this weekend, I’m happy to announce that
our Liturgy of the Word for Children will be celebrated
weekly and not monthly. We began this important
ministry to our young children two years ago as a way for
them to better understand the Sacred Scriptures
proclaimed at Mass.
For those who are not familiar with the Liturgy of the
Word for Children, please allow me to explain. After the
Collect or Opening Prayer of the Mass, children in grades
K-3 are invited to come up towards the altar. Once
assembled the presider says a prayer over the children
and then they go in procession to one of the classrooms
in the school building. A catechist holding the Children’s
Lectionary leads the Procession. Once in the classroom
the readings are proclaimed. The readings used are
done at a level that will help these young children
understand the stories of the Bible and how much Jesus
loves them. Following the readings a reflection or some
activity is done to help them better comprehend the
meaning of the Scriptures. The children are then brought
back into the church at the time of the Presentation of
Gifts, so they can be together with their families for the
Liturgy of the Eucharist.
I begin by thanking Patty Donovan, our former
Director of Religious Education, for helping to make this
happen two years ago. I thank Sr. Jane Feltz, M.P.F. (a
vocation from our parish) who has helped with this special
Liturgy since its beginnings here. This month Sr. Jane
began her new position as principal of Holy Family School
in Nutley, and she will not be available to oversee this
ministry. I thank Angela Connelly, our new Director of
Religious Education, for her enthusiasm not only in
overseeing this ministry, but also in making it a weekly gift
to our children. Lastly, (but certainly not least), I thank the
catechists who have worked in this ministry since its
inception. They are a valuable resource, and their
Stewardship of Time and Talent makes it possible for it to
be offered.
When you, the people of the parish, offer your
Stewardship of Time, Talent, (and Treasure, of course)
great things happen for the entire parish family and for the
greater glory of God.

Treasure and for all that you do for the life of the parish..

60TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS
Mark This Year's Calendar - November 7, 2010
Our 60th Anniversary Gala will begin with Mass at 3 pm
celebrated by Bishop John Flesey, D.D.. Mass will be
followed by a reception from 5 - 9 pm at the Hasbrouck
Heights Hilton. Good food, fun, fellowship, and great
dancing with a fabulous live band.
There are still some tickets available for our gala.
Hurry and order yours today. The deadline is Sept. 30.
The order forms for the tickets are available in the church
vestibule, in the Rectory office, and can be downloaded

The Gala Committee is looking for prizes. If you would like
to donate something such as Hotel or condo stays,

theater or concert tickets, jewelry (we have a man's watch),
restaurant certificates, electronic equipment, etc., please

The St. Pio Prayer Service will take place on
Friday, October 1st at 7:30 PM in the Church.
Following the service refreshments will be served in
the Church Auditorium and a video on the life of the
Saint will be shown.
During the prayer service there is a veneration of a 1st
class relic of the Saint’s blood followed by the exposition of
the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. Everyone is

MASS OF ANOINTING
On Saturday, October 16, 2010, our parish will celebrate a
communal Anointing of the Sick Mass at 11:00 am and blessing of
the E.M.Ts. This sacrament may be received more than once and
is for any person who has become ill and is in danger of
subsequent sickness. We especially encourage the elderly to be
candidates, but anyone facing major surgery, a serious illness, or
anyone who has been afflicted for a long time is invited to receive
the sacrament.
A light lunch will be served in our auditorium immediately following
the Mass.

NEW MASS TRANSLATION-Please go to our website
www.olqp.org to view the upcoming changes in the wording of
several parts of the Mass. These translations will help the
English speaking Church to be closer to the original text and
will begin on November 27, 2011.
MASS INTENTIONS / INFORMATION
St. Lorenzo Ruiz / Feast day: September 28
Lorenzo Ruiz is the first Filipino saint. He is also the first Filipino
martyred for the Christian Faith. Lorenzo Ruiz was a layman,
married, and had two sons and a daughter. Born in Binondo,
Manila, about 1600's, he was educated in the school of the
Dominicans there. He served as an altar boy and later was a
helper and clerk-sacristan in the church of Binondo. He was a
member of the Confraternity of the Rosary. He made his living
probably as a calligrapher, one who renders documents in
beautiful penmanship for private or official use. To be sure, that
work denoted an accomplished and educated person, especially at
a time when many an illustrious personage were far from excelling
in this art. An adverse event made him leave the Philippines in
1636. When he was in his late twenties or early thirties, he
became involved or was accused of being involved in a criminal
case, the circumstances of which are far from clear. Whether he
was involved or not, one thing was clear, he was afraid that, as a
consequence of a trial or mistrial, he might be given a death
sentence. Upon landing in Japan where Christians were being
persecuted, he was arrested and imprisoned together with his
companions. He underwent inhuman tortures and valiantly
confessed his Christian Faith. Refusing to renounce his Faith, he
told his executioner that he was ready to die for God and give
himself for many thousands of lives if he had them. On September
27, 1637, he was hung from a gallows by his feet, his body falling
into a pit. After two days of agony, he died of bleeding and
suffocation. His body was cremated and the ashes thrown into the
sea. He and 15 companions, martyred in the same persecution,
were beatified by Pope John Paul II in Manila on February 18,
1981 and elevated to full honors of the altar by canonization on
October 18, 1987 in Rome. Their feast day is on September 28th.
Liturgical Ministries: As we look to the beginning of a new year
full of excitement and energy here at Our Lady Queen of Peace, we
ask you to search your hearts and ask the Holy Spirit to help you
discern your Stewardship of Time and Talent. Perhaps the Holy
Spirit is asking you to serve the people of God in a ministry in
worship. Maybe you are called to become a Lector, to proclaim
God’s Word at Mass? Maybe the Spirit is calling you to serve as a
Greeter or Usher? Maybe you have been gifted with a musical
talent in which case your stewardship may be in the Music Ministry?
Maybe you wish to become an Altar Server assisting the priests at
Mass? Think about what God is asking of you and prayerfully
discern your Ministry.

PARENTS ARE THE FIRST TEACHERS OF THEIR CHILD.
The Religious Education Program is seeking a catechist for
Grade 3. Team teaching is also a possibility. Teacher
aides are also needed for various grade levels. Please call
Angela at the Religious Education Office (201-845-9545).
Third Grade parents are reminded of the mini retreat on
Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 9:30am - 11:30am in the
auditorium for all 3rd grade children. This is a
mandatory retreat for the children as well as the parents.
Please enter the building through the auditorium doors.
Make sure your child has eaten breakfast, as no food will
be served.
“PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN WORKSHOP”
On Wednesday, September 29th from 6:30pm to
9:00pm in the auditorium there will be the mandatory
workshop for any adult working or volunteering with the
children of OLQP parish. The Archdiocese of Newark
requires that all adults in the catechetical programs and
schools take this child abuse awareness seminar. Other
interested parishioners are welcome to attend. Space is
limited and you must pre-register.

Your baby is approaching his 9th month of development. He
continues to gain weight and has developed a layer of fat that
will keep him warm after he is born. He is shifting to a head-
