5. DESCRIPTION

1. CASE :- ID/FD FAN TRIPPING

* In case of any ID/FD fan tripping corresponding FD/ID fan and top mill will trip on

With the tripping of one running PA fan, the top most running mill will trip Further

3. CASE : AIR PRE-HEATER ROTOR STOPPAGE.


Air pre heater rotor stoppage alarm appears after – 50 see of rotor stoppage.
Rotor stoppage can occur due to following reasons:-

Case I – APH running motor fluid coupling or clutch fails.

Case II – APH trips due to any of the bearings of support/guide lube oil temperature
going more than 70 deg. C.

Case III – Running motor trips, standby fails to come up or U/D PTW and Air motor
also does not come or fails to rotate APH.

In all the above cases there will be rise in APH flue gas O/L temperature and fall in
SA & P/A outlet temperatures.

6. CASE : CIRCULATING WATER PUMP


TRIPPING IN UNITISED MODE

Tripping of one CW pump in unitized mode reduces cooling water flow to


approximately half and increases loading of running pump. Following actions are
required to save unit tripping on low vacuum or tripping of running pump on overload
and tripping of ECW pumps on suction pressure low (0.5 KSc.).

• HPBP operation, for giving an upward push to drum level, is strictly


prohibited as it will eventually defeat the purpose.
• As far as possible, mills ABCD should be kept in service if one BFP is not

7. CASE : TRIPPING OF LT AUXALARIES (ON ONE BUS)


DUE TO MOMENTORY DISTRUBANCE.

* LT drives may trip due to under voltage drop down of LT contactors (Drop down
voltage 60-70%).
* LT drives that have tripped can be restarted.
* If the equipments are not starting. And if two or more coal feeders have tripped,
then following actions need to be ensured by respective Desk Engineers:-

3. Inform HVDC regarding tripping of feeder from SA bus.
4. Inform Unit-II regarding tripping of Stn. Service transformer-2A (If SA End bkr
was closed) and check the following:-
- A/C MCC – 2A.
- GT cooler bank supply
- Stn ACDB-2A
- UPS charger.
- Lighting transformer.
- Excitation A/C supply.
5. Station service transformer-IA trips & check for the following:
- A/C MCC IA.
- GT cooler bank supply

- Station ACDB A (DG Swgr, ST I cooling bank).

6. Inform DM plant regarding tripping of DM plant transformer -1.

5. DESCRIPTION

GENERATORS OF 210 MW UNITS OF NTPC DADRI (THERMAL-UNITS 1, 2, 3, 4) ARE


PROVIDED WITH HYDROGEN COOLING SYSTEM. HYDROGEN IN THE GENERATOR CASING IS AT
A PREASSURE OF 3.5 KSC. AND IS SEALED AT THE END SHIELDS WITH SEALS AND SEAL-OIL
SYSTEM.

HYDROGEN FORMS EXPLOSIVE MIXTURES WHEN THE CONCENTRATON/RITY OF HYDROGEN IS


BETWEEN 5% TO 95% IN THE AIR.

TO AVOID THE FORMATION OF EXPLOSIVE MIXTURES DURING FILLING AND


PURGING OF HYDROGEN, CO2 IS USED AS AN INTERMEDIATE FILLING/PURGING MEDIUM IN
THE PROCESS.

WHENEVER HYDROGEN IS TO BE FILLED OR PURGED FROM GENERATOR CASING,

PLANNED SHUTDOWN OF 400 KV TRANSMISSION LINE.

1. OBTAININ WRITTEN CLARANCE FOR OPENNING THE FEEDER (BKRS.) FROM NRLDC/CPCC
2. COORDINATE WITH OTHER END/STATION OF THAT FEEDER BEFORE OPENNING THE BKR.
3. OPEN THE BKR. OF THAT BAY AND THEN OPEN THE MAIN BKR.
4. ENSURE THAT SEQUENTIAL ISOLATOR OPENED AUTOMATICALLY AFTER OPENNING THE
CORREPONDING BREAKER.
5. OPEN THE REMAINNINGISOLATOR (BUS AND LINE ISOLATOR) OF THAT BAY
6. CONFORM TO THE OTHER END ABOUT OPENING OF ISOLATORS AND TAKE
CONFIRMATION FROM THEM THAT THE LINE IS ISOLATED AT THEIR END
7. ENSURE FROM THE VOLTMETER THAT LINE VOLTAGE IS KILEED.
8. COMPLETE EARTHING AT BOTH ENDS AS PER PTW HOLDER REQUEST AND NATURE OF
THE JOB TO BE CRRIED OUT.
9. EARTHING OF DOUBLE CIRCUIT LINES HAS TO BE DONE IN ASSOCIATION WITH EMD.
10. EARTHING POSITION OF FEEDER AND PRECAUTION DURING JOB MUST BE WRITTEN ON
PTW BEFORE ISSUEING ANY PTW
11. FOLLOW WORK INSTRUCTIONS WI-2 FOR ISSUING THE PTW.
12. ISSUE THE PTW TO EMD.
13. IF PTW REQUEST FROM OUTER AGENCY (PGCIL) THEN ENDORSEMENT OF PTW BY SENIOR
AUTHORISED PERSON FROM EMD MUST BE OBTAINED ON PTW BEFORE ISSUEING THE
PTW TO PGCIL.
CHARGING OF TRANSMISSION LINE.
1. AFTER CANCELLATION OF PTW CHECK THE BAY AND ENSURE THAT NO DISCHARGE
ROD/EARTHING CONNECTED ON THAT BAY.
2. PASS THE MESSAGE TO NRLDC/CPCC AND CONCERNED STATION INFORMING THEM
ABOUT CANCELLATION OF PTW AT OUR END AND ASK FOR THE CLEARANCE FOR
CHARGING THE LINE.
3. AFTER GETTING CONFIRMATION ABOUT CANCELLATION OF PTW AT BOTH ENDS.
ENSURE THE OPENING OF EARTHING AT BOTH PLACES.
* OPENING OF EARTHING OF DOUBLE CIRCUTT LINES HAS TO BE DONE IN ASSOCIATION
WITH EMD.
* AFTER OBTAINING WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHER END ABOUT OPENNING THE
EARTH SWITCH AT THEIR END. OPEN THE EARTH SWITCH AT OUR END.
4. AFTER OBTAINING WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FROM OTHER END ABOUT OPENNING THE
OTHER STATION. CLOSE ALL ISOLATORS OF THE LINE AND CHECK THEIR ALIGNMENT.
5. CHARGE/SYNCHRONISE THE FEEDER OF THE LINE THROUGH MAIN BREAKER
(PREFERABLY) AND THEN CLOSE THE TIE BKR.
6. NOTE DOWN THE CHARGE/SYNCHRONISATION TIME AND INFORM TO NRLDC/CPCC/SCE

9. ENSURE FROM THE VOLTMETER THAT THE VOLTAGE OF BUS IS KILLED.
10. CLOSE THE EARTH SWITCH OF BUSCOUPLER B AY TOWARDS 220 KV BUS-1 (689 AE

* ONE ST AND ONE MORE UNIT WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THAT BUS CAN TRIP
* ONLY ONE UNIT, ONE ST ANS ONE ICT MAY REMAIN IN CHARGED CONDITION
* BUS COUPLER WILL TRIP.

2. DO THE GROUP PAGING TO ALL HODS AND INFORM TO SCE / EMD / OS CONTROL ROOM.
3. COORDINATE WITH SCE FOR FURTHER ACTION.
4. DO THE THOROUGH INSPECTION AND NOTE DOWN ALL RELAYS OPERATED.
5. TAKE THE CLEARANCE FROM EMD FOR CHARGING ST/ICT, UNIT SYNCHRONISATION WITH
HEALTHY BUS.
6. TAKE THE NRLDC / CPCC CLEARANCE
7. CHARGE THE ICT AND ST WITH THE HEALTHY BUS AS PER WORK INSTRUCTION WI-4
8. SYNCHRONISE THE UNTS WITH THE HEALTHY BUS AS PER WORK INSTRUCTION WI-4
9. NOTE DOWN THE UNIT SYNCHRONISATION/ICT CHARGING TIME AND INFORM TO THE

10. TAKE THE CLEARANCE FROM EMD TO CHARGE 220 KV BUS WHICH WAS TRIPPED AND

OPEN THE BUS ISOLATOR/LINE ISOLATOR AND ENSURE THE RELAY OF
CORRESPONDING ISOLATOR IS IN RESET CONDITION IN WPRP RELAY PANEL AT
LOCAL AND FROM CONTROL ROOM.
DO THE EARTHING AS PER PTW HOLDER REQUIREMENT
*********** IN CASE OF LONG SHUTDOWN OF STATION TRANSFORMER AND
GENARTOR TRANSFORMER, EMD MAY BE ALLOWED TO EXCLUDE THE CONTRIBUTION

5. GIVE CLEARANCE TO UCB FOR SYNCHRONISING THE UNIT
6. OBTAIN THE CLEARANCE FROM NRLDC/CPCC IN CASE OF CHARGING ST /ICT

TYPICAL EXAMPLE FOR ONE BAY.

1. TRANSFER OF # 1 FROM 220 KV BUS-1 TO 220 KV BUS-2.


2. CLOSE THE ISOLATOR 289B.
3. AFTER INSURING THE CLOSE POSITION OF ISOLATOR, OPEN THE ISOLATOR 289A
WHICH IS CONNECTED TO 220 KV BUS-1.
4. TRANSFER OF # 1 BAY HAS COMPLETED.
5. IN THIS WAY TRANSFER ALL UNITS ST & ICT TO CARRIED-OUT ONE BY ONE.
6. *** ENSURE THAT VOLTAGE SELECTION OF ALL THE BAY CORRESPONDING TO 220
KV BUS-1 (75A & 75AX) ARE IN RESET POSITION. IF NOT IN RESET POSITION GET IT
RESET FROM EMD BEFORE OPENNING THE BUSCOUPLER
7. OPEN THE BUS COUPLER BKR. AND BUS COUPLER BAY ISOLATOR
8. REMOVE THE ALL FUSES OF ISOLATORS CONNECTED WITH 220 KV BUS-1 AND
LOCK THEM IN THE LOCKOUT BOX
9. ENSURE FROM THE VOLTMETER THAT THE VOLTAGE OF BUS IS KILLED.
10. CLOSE THE EARTH SWITCH OF BUSCOUPLER BAY TOWARDS 220 KV BUS-1(689 AE
2)
11. ISSUE THE PTW TO EMD.

CHARGING OF 220 KV BUS-1/BUS-2

1. AFTER CANCELLATION OF PTW CHECK THE ENTIRE 220 KV BUS-1 AND CONFORM
THAT NO EARTHING / DISCHARGE ROD PENDING ON 220 KV BUS-1.
2. INFORM SCE.
3. OPEN THE EARTH SWITCH (689AE 2).
4. NORMALISE THE SUPLY TO ALL ISOLATOR CONNECTED TO 220 KV BUS-1
5. CLOSE THE BUS COUPLER BAY ISOLATOR

VARIOUS OPERATION ACTIVITIES AS PER SCHEDULE
4.3 SHIFT CHARGE ENGINEER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT THESE
SYSTEMS ARE FOLLOWED.
