Phase IIT is characterized by changes in tock fabric rather than mineralogy. Fractures and vugs that have developed
through the Holovene epoch have een partially filled by Bladed to mcr eaeite cements that were proviptted in the
meteoric phreatic and Vadose zones,
Present-day values of some clements. notably Sr. in calcite cements and micrite are relatively low but do reflect original
mineralogy. Higher Sr values within internal sediments (mierite), boeKreet micro, and recrystallized mollusk fragments
indicate am original high-Sr aragonite mineralogy. In addition, lower permeabilities of micrite prevented effective removal oF
Aushing of Sr from the rocks hy the moder ground-water tystem.
Allthe early freshwater diagenetic features at Pipe Creek are thought to have evolved during burial. The small amount of
iagenesis is tributed to subaevial exposure during deposition only affected perireelime grainstones. Because of pervasive
submarine diagenesis, reef beds appear to have much lower permeability than adjacent grainstones, although woREY porosity
is welhdeveloped inthe reefs. Many eatures in Cretaceous rust refs that have been attributed to syndepostinal meteor
water diagenesis may have heen developed during burial Waters responsible for diagenesis may have flowed downdip rom
