Reserve strength of an aircraft landing gear beam is evaluated, using an MSCINASTRAN finite element model. Differences in simulated behavior are identified when the model formulation includes initial stress stiffening, geometric and material nonlinearity, and instability. The sensitivity of the results is investigated to variations in end restraints and to geometric imperfections.
