Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP 1440 New York Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20005-2111 RE: Parkland Memorial Hospital Dear Mr. Luce: By letter dated August 20, 2009, the Office of Inspector General for the Department of @ Health and Human Services (OIG) removed Parkland Memorial Hospital (Parkland) from its self-disclosure protocol. This office was then referred the allegations for review. On October 1, 2009, Parkland sent a letter to the OIG detailing its disagreement with the OIG's decision. Along with the letter, Parkland notified the OIG that it voluntarily repaid Medicare $1,434,364.00. ‘That amount is purportedly the overpayment associated with the conduct Parkland originally self-disclosed to the OIG in March 2005, Please note that Parkland’s repayment to the Medicare program does not compromise the government's fraud authorities, nor necessarily mean its review is closed.
