UTAH RARE PLANT GUIDE

Supplemental information
Cryptantha semiglabra

Only one element occurrence of this species has been mapped for this species and
its exact location (much less the extent of its occurrence) in Utah is essentially
unknown.

In Higgins, L. C. 1971. A revision of Cryptantha subgenus Oreocarya. Brigham Young

Univ. Sci. Bull., Biol. Ser. 13(4): 1-63 the distribution is described as follows:

“Apparently confined to near the type locality and north just across the state line into
Washington or perhaps Kane County, Utah. Growing on clay soils, 4,500 to 5,000
feet.”

Ripley and Barneby lectoype 8429 was collected in Coconino County, Arizona, on
detrital clay hills near Fredonia, Arizona at 4,900 feet on June 5, 1942.

None of the cited collections for this species provide any clarifying information as to
Utah locations.

Herbarium searches at BRY, UT, and UTC have not revealed any further specimens.

Some additional pictures follow. All pictures are from Arizona at or near the type
locality since it is unknown precisely where the species occurs in Utah.

Note bright green upper leaf surface.

Note the glabrous upper leaf surface. Since the plant has not reached maturity, this
picture is not representative of its ultimate height.
